This book is meant to be useful to anyone who is interested in having and working with a large guardian dog. In these pages I hope I have answered many of the questions that surround large guardian dogs and what these great animals are possible of. It is my hope that the reader studies this book before purchasing their first large guardian pup. Training and maintaining a large guardian dog can be very time consuming early in the training stages, but the reward is well worth the peace of mind one will experience for the years that follow. One of the best lessons I have learned is that our large guardian dogs are forgiving of my shortcomings as a herd and dog owner. Often they know and understand more about what is going on than I do. These dogs are endlessly loyal and can be incredibly beneficial and meaningful to you, your family and your farm.

A self-published book, Jumping Boundaries means well, does okay in some respects, but comes up short. The cover of the book first of all, must have been a stock photo the publisher used - it is not an LGD, and it is not the author or any of her Great Pyrenees. The title is confusing. It refers to LGDs jumping fences. I don't know if that is what you'd want to focus on for the title of a book. Her intent was good, her writing so-so. The lack of organization in her writing style bothered me. It won't hurt anyone to read it.Product details

Very clear writing; very informative.
I have had GLD's for years and this is an excellent book--has some things in it I hadn't thought about before.
Very enjoyable read. Short, nice, and I like the tips at the end. Hope she keeps writing more on Great Pyrenees.
Didn't know much about training before, but this is a very informative book.
It has a very down home feel to it, and I felt like I could visualize the farm and the
family members in the book ) I would recommend this book..
We have 3 of these dogs and learn new stuff everyday, Kimberley helped to explain the root cause for some issues we were having. It's a good read even for those that don't have LGD's and may just have these big fuzzy white balls of fur as a lovable pet.
Like the reviewer of 4/24/14, I, too, wish the author had stuck with the more familiar “livestock guardian dogs” rather than “large guardian dogs”, and I found it a bit disconcerting to hear them referred to as “large”. I also thought the editing left something to be desired. That said, reading the snippet of the book provided on hardly qualifies that reviewer to write a balanced review. And the dog on the cover, rather than being a Labrador retriever, as asserted in that review, could be the author’s own, a mix of Anatolian Shepherd and Great Pyrenees, both popular LGD breeds. Whatever the breed, I only wish my own LGD’s were as well trained as the author’s!
This book gives a glimpse into a lifestyle that is rare in the modern US. Readers who do not have LGDs will still be fascinated by the descriptions of the author’s training methods. If you love dogs, goats, or good stories, or have the farm dream, you will enjoy this book.
Well written and specifically focuses on the training of livestock protection dogs. I appreciate her insight into numerous specific problems that are encountered by individuals who are trying to train these magnificent animals. She also gives possible remedies for each. While this is an inexact science, Ms Strunk does an excellent job at delivering information one can use in an interesting format.
